Children’s Ministry
First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry
Our children are led in many different learning and formative experiences by adults and youth who are visible examples of God’s love. The children are nurtured through Sunday School, worship, missions, activities, trips, camp, play, and fellowship. All of these experiences offer children a chance to wonder, to question, and to explore faith. Spiritual practices and Bible stories help build a foundation for faith as children begin to discover who God has created them to be. For additional information about the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist, please contact Kayla Beard, Interim Director of Children’s Ministry.
Children’s Ministry Programs
Sunday School
Sunday School is 10:00-10:45 on Sunday mornings. Babies are rocked and loved in our nursery. Toddlers begin learning of God’s love using stories and songs. The children’s curriculum (Spark’s “Shine”) offers children a place to gain Bible literacy and knowledge through stories, crafts, activities, and games. This is a time for your child to learn and engage with Bible stories, which will be instructional and supportive throughout their lives. For a list of Children’s Sunday School classes, click here.
Worship
Childcare (Extended Session) is provided for newborns through K5 in three rooms, depending upon the age of the child, as follows: nursery (room 126), toddler (for those walking well to 2K, room 127), and Children’s Church (3K-K5, room 130). Children’s Church children have the option of beginning their worship experience in the Sanctuary, where “Scripture Thoughts for Children” is offered especially for them during most worship services. They will be brought down to the Children’s Church room afterward by a volunteer. FBC offers a nursing room (Room 123) for moms and babies. Once a month, a child leads in worship by reading scripture. Our 3rd-5th graders may participate in worship as acolytes. Acolytes are “helpers” who, light and extinguish the alter candles during the service. Lighting the candles represents God’s presence among us. Any 3rd-6th grader can be an acolyte after attending a training session. For additional information, please contact Kayla Beard.
Music & Missions
Each Wednesday Night, choir begins at 5:30 pm for 4K -1st grade (Music Makers) and 2nd-5th grade (Young Musicians). A music activity group for 2K and 3K (Bright Beginnings) also meets at 5:30 pm. Supper follows in the Fellowship Hall. Children In Action (CIAs) begin at 6:30 pm. The curriculum throughout the year offers children a breadth of knowledge and practice. They seek the heart of Jesus through spiritual practices, worship, and Bible study; and they practice being the hands of Jesus through missions. In age-appropriate ways, children learn what it means to be Christian and to be Baptist. Through discussions, games, crafts, mission projects, activities, worship, and prayer, children discover the meaning of faith and learn how to share God’s love with those around them.
