Spiritual Formation
The Christian journey is a life-encompassing pilgrimage that entails personal and corporate practices of prayer, worship, and discipline. At First Baptist, Spiritual Formation and growth opportunities take place for all ages in a variety of contexts including walking a labyrinth and special offerings by the Spiritual Formation Committee. The two main opportunities for spiritual formation are on Sunday morning at 10:00 am and Wednesday evening.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

First Baptist is dedicated to the spiritual growth of individuals and families. Therefore, First Baptist provides an excellent Sunday morning Bible study program for all ages. The following is a brief description of each age group and their meeting location.

First Baptist works hard to provide a safe, inviting, and loving environment for children of all ages. Dedicated by volunteers strive each week to share the love of Christ with every child.
Nursery (Birth to steady walkers): Lower Level, Room 126
Toddlers Steady Walkers to 2K): Lower Level, Room 127
3K - 4K: Lower Level, Room 128
5K - 2nd Grade: Lower Level, Room 119
3rd Grade – 5thGrade: Lower Level, Room 116

A group of dedicated volunteers teach the youth on Sunday morning. A rotation of teachers provides a variety of teaching styles and a way in which youth can relate to adults within the larger context of church.
Grades 6-12: Lower Level, Room 102

Adult classes are organized by life-stages with experienced and passionate instructors. Occasionally, all adult classes meet together for seminars with guest speakers who discuss topics with a range.
Carlton’s Corner: Upper Level, Room 211
The Carlton’s Corner class seeks to meet the spiritual and social needs of young adults who are pursuing higher education or are beginning their professional career.Upper Room: Lower Level, Room 104
The Upper Room Sunday School class is a group of adults in their 30s and 40s that meet outside of church for fellowship and weekly for discussion based lessons each Sunday from rotation of voluntary teachers rotate on a voluntary basis.Faith Builders: Lower Level, Room 107
The Faith Builders is a class of mid 30s to 60s where all are welcome into an informal, open, encouraging, and supportive family that is based in Scripture, Faith, and Christ’s love for one another.Hopkins Class: Lower Level, Room 108
The Hopkins class brings a variety of perspectives to the study of scripture and is largely comprised of members around retirement age.Mauldin Class: Upper Level, Room 208
The Mauldin class is filled with fun, laughter, and prayer concerns with good teachers to bring God’s message each Sunday.Timms Class: Lower Level, Room 106
The Timms class is a men’s class seeking to understand God’s word for the world today.Carpenter Class: Upper Level, Room 210
The Carpenter class is a coed class for mature, enthusiastic Biblical learners.Bowers Class: Lower Level, Room 103
The Bowers Class is a welcoming, loving, and supportive fellowship of ages 60+ (but any are welcome!) who journey together to grow in faith, love god more fully,, and become more Christ-like through meaningful lessons and through living and serving their neighbors by a focus on missions.

Wednesdays
Wednesday Night provides spiritual formation opportunities for the whole family! Whether sitting around a table with new and long-time friends at the dinner table or participating in one of the age-appropriate Wednesday night activities, there is something for everyone. All are invited to make a reservation for the Wednesday night meal.

Children in Action (CIA) offers children an opportunity to seek the heart of Jesus thro ugh spiritual practices, worship, and Bible study. CIAs also practice being the hands of Jesus through missions. In age-appropriate ways, children learn what it means to be Christian and Baptist. Through discussions, games, crafts, mission projects, activities, worship, and prayer, children discover the meaning of faith and learn how to share God’s love with those around them.

While the format changes from week to week, Holy Ground is an energetic, inclusive, fun, thought provoking, and always uplifting gather where everyone is welcome. Holy Ground is where friends are made, grace is given, and faith is deepened.

The following is a list of the various offering provided for adults on Wednesday evening.
1) Building Blocks: Building Blocks offers a “six to eight week blocks” of study surrounding various relative topics. Study options are taught by the senior pastor as others. A list of adult Building Block options and room location is available in the newsletter or bulletin.
2) Growing on Grace: Formerly known as Grace Street Parents, Growing on Grace is a vibrant and welcoming group of younger adults—many of them parents—who gather weekly to grow in faith, support one another, and share the joys and challenges of everyday life.*
3) Chancel Choir
