Edgewood Cemetery
Edgewood Cemetery and Mausoleum
On Sunday, January 25, 1987, the membership of First Baptist Church voted on a recommendation from the Diaconate to accept a gift of the Edgewood Cemetery by James C. Self, owner of Greenwood Mills. The recommendation also included the creation of an Edgewood Cemetery Board whose responsibility is for the improvement, perpetual care, and maintenance of the Edgewood Cemetery. Edgewood Cemetery is more than nine acres and has more than 1,300 lots. Currently there are approximately 140 four-person lots and 25 single lots available for purchase.
Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum was founded in 1947 by George E. Free and Nolan J. Rauton and dedicated to the “memory of those who in eternal sleep repose herein.” First Baptist Church took ownership of the Edgewood Memorial Mausoleum in May 1995. There are more than 260 crypts in the mausoleum with approximately 20 crypts available for purchase.
